So yeah! Been busy these last few days, and the next few days will be ... also busy. Probably doesn't help that I'm currently dog-sitting three big lovable hooligans, either. I mean, they're good dogs (mostly), but they're still a handful.
In any case, in case you've not been paying attention for whatever reason, I just posted a new chapter of Octavia's Eleven. Woo?
So apparently, FanOfMostEverything has something of a hobby of making pony themed Magic: The Gathering cards. And, since the show ended last year, he's been kind of hard-up for new pony content. So hard up, that he's been forced to scrape the bottom of the proverbial barrel, and now he's made up cards based on The Flash Sentry Papers!
So!
Today was my first day in ... awhile when I didn't have Stuff Planned(tm). Which, y'know, is certainly a change from where I was last year.
Still haven't seen the pony movie.
Heck, still haven't seen a good number of episodes from the latest season.
I am not very good at ponies.
BUT.
My dad once told me a joke about Russian literature:

Things have been fairly hectic on my end from a couple of different angles-- buuuuut I've also reached the point where just about everything is done. Presents are (mostly) wrapped, family plans are (mostly) established, and thankfully I don't have to do much in the way of travelling. Whoo! And so, I'm now at the 'biding time' stage of the holiday ... which naturally means it's time to drink beers and look at stupid things on the internet.
As per the usual, I SHOULD be working on something halfway productive (theoretically, I'll wrap up Five Friendly Venoms by the end of the month, but I make no promises). But! I stumbled across A THING.
Fanfic is weird.
So, awhile back, GrandCat started translating The Flash Sentry Papers into Russian. The existence of A) Russian Bronies and B) Russian Bronies that would want to read my fic is something new to me.
But wait, there's more!
As not only has my work been translated, it's now been audiobook'd. Or, uh, Youtube reader'd. Just ... in Russian.
Y'know, I probably should have waited 'til sometime other than a Friday night (much less that of Friday the 13th) to finish a story, but eh. What can you do?
(That, and I had some time to kill before I go to watch an actual Friday the 13th movie, because hockey-mask zombies murderizing teenagers is surprisingly entertaining).
WELP.
I didn't even bother signing up for NaNoWriMo this year. These days I find myself returning home from my Real People Job without the brainpower to produce more than a paragraph or two (on a good night!), much less the 1667 words daily to hit the arbitrary 50k mark.
Oh hey! Finished up The Good, the Bad, and the Sentry. Which ... despite having a rather low view count, has popped up (however briefly) in the Featured Box? And it's in the lower-three slots which means that it got featured BEFORE, somehow? Guess y'all were just reading the story when I wasn't looking, I guess?
First thing, in case you haven't been paying attention (or in the more likely case that you probably don't care), I've posted another entry of Sentry at the Charge. As the third installment of my most niche series, I'm not expecting it to blow up the featured box, but I'm still having a lot of fun writing it. Plus, it kinda-sorta ties into my other work now-- woo continuity! People like that, right?
WHELP.
This is my 2018 "yeah I failed at NaNoWriMo again" post. Made it about ... 16k words in, and decided to scrap it. Mostly because I was having trouble reconciling setting exposition and compelling characters and so on.
It's funny, as I've always loved siege stories. Helm's Deep, Assault on Precinct 13, Night of the Living Dead, Roarke's Drift, The Alamo-- and so on. Something about a small group of survivors holding out against a numerically larger threat is just compelling. Though it's a little less appealing when you've been living one for the last couple months. Oof.
So! In case you haven't been paying attention, I updated Octavia's Eleven last night. More complications! And there's gonna be even more craziness to come, so stay tuned.
I also should have known people would fixate on the Burninator bit, but ... well. I'm shameless. And dragons, right? Not to mention the whole point of The Flash Sentry Papers is to pile on references and allusions and other silliness, so it fits right in.
"Oh Tumbleweed!" you cry.
"You are obviously a dashing and talented gentleman, but please, tell the whole twelve people who actually read The Flash Sentry Papers, how do you write Flash Sentry?"
WELL LET ME TELL YOU.
Step 1: Drink drinks. But, like, classy fancy drinks. Or at least cheap drinks masquerading as fancy drinks. Box wine (red, of course), is a good start. As are halfway decent scotches or brandies.

They're like FiMfiction, only you can still read them after your laptop's battery has died, or when somebody's thrown your phone in a lake!
